Bye bye iWatch
After several years of owning, I think, three different versions of the Apple Watch, I’m moving away from this product as well. My "de-Apple-ification" continues. I still own an iPhone, which I’m relatively happy with, but I’ve either ditched or retired my Apple Watch and old MacBooks (just retired them). The Apple Watch was probably the least-used Apple device I’ve ever owned. I never fully embraced its functionality or the always-on notifications mode, and I was truly frustrated with the battery life. I found myself having to remember to charge it every single night.
Sometimes, I literally forgot it on the charger. Soon, I realized this was defeating the main purpose for me: having a device to track health metrics and vitals. To be clear, I’m not a sporty person—so please don’t jump on me—but I’ve now pivoted to a Garmin Fenix 8. I know, I know. It’s been only two or three days with the new watch, but so far, I’m pretty happy. It’s “smart” enough, packed with several sensors, and has a great battery life. I opted for the Solar version, though I haven’t yet validated how efficient the solar charging is. Regardless, the fact that I don’t have to charge it every night is good enough for me.
Maybe this will make me more active? I don’t know—let’s see! Go Garmin!
